WORKING DIARY
Week 4
Monday 17 Feb 2014
Started prototyping with cardboard and masking tape. Discovers that current design doesn't work, as it doesn't fulfill some of the criteria. Have to change the original design.
Tuesday 18 Feb 2014
Restarted prototype. Changed original design and size, from 15 x 15 x 6 to 15.5 x 15.5 x 7 and from 8 triangles to 4 triangles. Also, found a dilemma on how to keep the money in place. Mr Smith gave a solution. Now I need to figure out how to fit the design into solution.
Thursday 20 Feb 2014
Prototyping, changed design into slots and not boxes for convenience and to fit solution above.

Week 5
Monday 24 Feb 2014
Essentially, prototype is done. Final Design.
Thursday 27 Feb 2014 - Monday 24 Feb 2014 Mini Task Did not work on money box - Exercise on how we are to bend and join our metal and acrylic.

Week 9
Thursday 27 March 2014
Started actual product. Measured out our pieces and the amount of sheet metal we needed for our projects. 2 projects on one piece of sheet metal. I shared with Michelle. After all measurements done given to Mr Smith to cut.

Week 10
Monday 31 March 2014
Started marking out the main piece and marked out the 2 supporting tabs.
Tuesday 1 April 2014
Finished marking out the main piece. Cut out supporting tabs with tin snips
Thursday 3 April 2014
Started cutting out main piece with tin snips. This is taking forever.

Week 11
Monday 7 April 2014
Continued cutting the main piece out. Almost done!
Tuesday 8 April 2014
Finally finished cutting out the main piece. Consulted Mr Smith about what order I should bend the sides up. He said to do the two sides with tabs first then the another side and after the acrylic is in to bend the final side up.
Thursday 10 April 2014
Bent both supporting tabs as well as the first side with tabs.

TERM 2
Week 1
Tuesday 29 April 2014
Collected acrylic for dividers needed. Also stamped out the labels on the metal for my box - It didn't turn out how I expected, letter punches were harder to use than expected and letters were crooked (was really annoyed with it at first) but provided a rustic-vintage sort of look(my opinion), in which i settled with. Didn't finish, 3 letters to go~! Had to do on an anvil. Started marking out acrylic dividers.
Thursday 1 May 2014
Finished letter stamping. Tried stamping out the back dents - due to not stamping properly I had 4 massive dents in the back. Kind of got it flat -disappointed. Finished marking out the acrylic. Got Mr Smith to cut out one side of the acrylic dividers using the push saw.

Week 2
Monday 5 May 2014
Cut out the other side of the dividers using scroll saw then desanded the sides until nice and even. Drilled the holes 3.5 Diameter. Then used scroll saws again to cut out the slots - took some adjusting to get it right. Then started the sanding/polishing process. Used magnet bender to bend up the second side.
Tuesday 6 May 2014
Mr Smith was away so no power tools. Spent the period sanding and polishing the sides of the dividers. Michelle helped me because she needed power tools to continue work. Peeled off the protective covering to see if it fitted right. Tight fit but it fitted! Yays~!
Thursday 8 May 2014
Fiddled around with the acrylic dividers to make sure it was fully in and polished one of the dividers again because of some scratches and to make it fit nicer.

Week 3
Monday 12 May 2014
Spot welded the supporting tabs on with help from Ernestene. One side turned out really well, other side one was a bit wonky, so I adjusted it with pliers. Folded the third side of the metal up using the magnetic bender. Had to adjust the side tabs with pliers so that the tabs would be on the inside. Didn't have time to spot weld and everyone was busy, so I started marking out my acrylic for the lid.
Thursday 15 May 2014
Continued the acrylic lid. Finished marking out the dimensions. Got Miss to cut it out for me on the push saw. Started sanding/polishing process.

Week 4
Monday 19 May 2014
I hate the spot welder downstairs. Its so hard to use, especially when you do it yourself. Redid the spot welding heaps of times because it wasn't welding properly but it left these hideous spot welding marks that just spread. Bleugh. Also, before when folding up the third side bent up the tabs and i bent it up too much, so its really demented and i attempted flattening it out with a hammer, didn't work very well... Tried to see if the acrylic fitted in the metal. It does!!! Yay! Finished the polishing part of the lid. Also bent it last minute on the strip bender. I realised that I can't bend it on the magnet bender with the acrylic blocking the way. Mr McAlister provided the solution that I magnet bend it halfway, slip the acrylic in and then hand bend it back up. Plus found out that I don't know how to attach the final side on as I can't spot weld it with the acrylic in the way. Decided that I was going to rivet it.
Also this was the last lesson for me to complete this thing. Away on VA excursion on Thursday, not possible to hand it in. Going to ask for extension.

Week 5
Monday 26 May 2014
Yay! One week extension! I marked out the holes needed to rivet it and started drilling. Drilling took up most of the period. Really hard when you already have a pretty much folded box. After I tackled the drilling process. I bent it but turns out the acrylic is a bit too bit long for the box. Being cheap since I'm running out of time so I desanded it and gave it a quick rub with sandpaper and wet and dry paper. Oh also, for some reason while the acrylic lid was in the cupboard it cracked - produces a really nice effect though, so I'm not complaining.
Tuesday 27 May 2014
Bent the metal fully up without acrylic to see if the holes for rivets match up. They don't. I hate myself. You can't even fit one rivet in, out of 4 none of them fit they are all off completely. Went to Miss to ask about what to do about it, she suggested that next period we could needle file it. Folded it down so I could adjust it for next period and the acrylic as well. Went and desanded the acrylic a bit more, also curved the corners so they don't bump into the supporting tabs. Still pressed for time so i only sanded it and wet and dry papers it with the tiniest smidgen of Brasso. Looks really dodgy but i figure since its facing the corner who can tell... I don't like my job right now. Its demented and ugly because i'm rushing. And its just not working it looks so weird.
Thursday 29 May 2014
YAY~! Another extension~ I asked Miss at the beginning of the period again and she said it would be better to bend it up again and G clamp it together and then redrill the holes. And that's essentially what I did for the rest of the period. Did it all over a piece of wood viced to the bench with an electric drill. Learnt always to look at which button you press on the G clamp before you actually press it. And that hand drilling is very dangerous when you do it yourself.

Week 6
Monday 2 June 2014
Finished drilling all the holes. Places the acrylic dividers in riveted it in. took some fidgeting for some of them to fit in. There was one hole that just wouldn't go in so i just left it because Miss said that it should be ok. YAY~! Everything fits and i'm essentially done! i fiddled with the lid and the runners for the lid to make sure it was tight but wasn't too loose so that it would fall out or too tight so that it couldn't be pulled out and slotted back in. Spray painted it with navy blue!!! SOOOO happy with the spray job! Beautiful colour, no drips, Ugly spot welding marks are gone...
Thursday 5 June 2014
Rebent my acrylic lid so that it curves back rather than forward and protruding out. Spent period fitting the lid with bend back lid.
