Techniques Applied and Learnt
Cutting & Bending Acrylic
- Measure your acrylic
- Drill a small hole at the intersections of the acrylic that need bending.
- Using the scroll saw and cut out the excess acrylic.
- Rub all exposed side of the acrylic with a file, sandpaper, wet and dry paper and finally brasso.
- Rip off the coverings of the acrylic and place the joint on the strip heater. Once warm enough bend the acrylic until desired angle and hold it there until it cools. To change the angle just repeat the strip heating process.
Cutting and Welding Sheet Metal
- Like the acrylic, do steps 1 and 2 to the sheet metal.
- Using tin-snips cut off the excess sheet metal.
- Use a hammer to flatten out the sheet metal. Make sure you hammer against a metal surface.
- Use a metal folder to fold the tabs and sides of the sheet metal.
- Use a Spot welder to weld the metal tabs together to join.
